My own personal favourite “at least Chinese grammar is simple” not on the list. Sure there are verb conjugations or gendered nouns or even verb tenses. In the beginning this is a boon, but will come back to bite you at latest on year three of your studies. After all, one can express all the same things in Chinese you do in other languages and often it means a single particle can change the meaning in ways it is hard to guess unless you spent quite some time with the grammar book.
