3x365 Russian Words, Day 89

Went on to learn some more animals today besides “Собака”, “Кошка” and “ёжик” we already learned before.

Turns out animal names make weird travels: Russian (and Finnish) word for Cheetah (“гепард” and “”gepardi” comes from Latin through French or Italian) and English Cheetah originates from Sanskrit through Germanic languages 🤷‍♂️. Ostrich on other hand in both Finnish and Russian came through Germanic languages (never realized ostrich, strutsi and Strauß are pretty much the same word)

Let’s stick to more every day animals in our words:

  1. Лягушка - a frog - sammakko

  2. Медведь - a bear - karhu

  3. Курица - a chicken - kana
