In Star Trek the Next Generation they spend a lot of time talking about Data’s inability to feel emotions. I find this way of thinking unimaginative. I think we would get something recognizable as emotions way before we reached AGI. Some random/irrational element to short-circuit rational thought is required to make decisions with limited information or deadlines, no?
